Cycles, then papers

An exam cycle is the event the school runs — "Half-yearly examination" — and it belongs to a term. Papers sit inside it, one per subject.

Setting up the cycle first is what makes the timetable and the marks card work as single documents rather than as a pile of unrelated subject exams.

Entering, then publishing

Teachers enter marks. Publishing is a separate action and is what makes results visible to families. Until it happens, nothing is released.

Treat publishing as the decision it is: check before you publish, because families are notified.

Corrections after publishing

Correct and re-publish. The change is recorded. Do not expect a correction to go unnoticed — that is the design.

Grading

Grading schemes are configuration, per school. If a boundary is wrong, it is a settings change, not a code change and not something to work around by adjusting marks.
