Must-read notices

A school can mark a notice as one you have to acknowledge. Those ask you to confirm you have read them, and the school can see who has. It is used for things a school must be able to prove it told you.

Why some things arrive on WhatsApp and others do not

Every type of message has a channel decided by the school, not by the software: in-app only, email, SMS, or WhatsApp. A school choosing which to use is balancing cost against reach, and it can differ per message type — fee reminders by WhatsApp, homework in-app only.

So "I got a WhatsApp about fees but not about homework" is a setting, not a fault.

Digests

Some message types are sent as a single daily summary rather than one message each. A school that sends forty homework notifications a day would be ignored, so it sends one evening digest instead.

A digest line is a summary. Open the item itself for the detail.

Your own preferences

Where your school allows it, you can set which channels you want to be reached on. Some categories cannot be switched off — a school has to be able to reach you about your child.

If you are not receiving anything

Check the address and number the school holds for you (the office can tell you), and check whether you have consented to WhatsApp where that is used. A number that has never consented cannot be messaged.
